Berkeley: Another One Bucks The Trend
When I reviewed 2940 Avalon Avenue in May, I suggested it was highly unlikely this home would go for its $1,995,000 asking price.
I was right because this Arts & Crafts gem sold for 10% more at $2,200,000. Another example of high-end homes in coveted neighborhoods being blissfully oblivious of market conditions elsewhere.
The library alone (above right) would have wowed potential buyers. But the house, designed by Charles S. Kaiser, had so many lovely original features that it was often included on architectural tours.
The house was the highest priced one of 14 to be recorded as sold last week. Lowest was 2017 Prince Street, a 4-bedroom 1910 house, which went for $505,000.
