That’s the most misleading ad I have ever seen. I believe you should have written “I have a list of…”, not “I have listed 32 single family homes…” as the term “listed” is commonly used in your industry to denote you as the listing agent.

That’s akin to you saying you are my counsel, just because you counseled me, even though you are not a lawyer. You are either trying to be sly or sneaky by misstating the facts or you are just plain ignorant or sloppy–all reasons to run away from your company.

Just a reminder that the bloggers on this site are not Redfin employees and not residential real estate agents. We are independent contractors writing what we want about local real estate. Our regular readers know that we feature open houses every week, so this wording is not offensive, however if you are a new reader, it could understandably confuse you. I would venture to say that most people would agree that I am neither ignorant nor sloppy. And that the word counsel could also apply to a psychologist, priest or social worker and it is all in how you read or the context of the writing. Same applies for the words list or listing.

That’s interesting, Susan. I got the impression from reading your other posts that you were a licensed and practicing real estate agent?

Wow!? Really? Well, maybe that is a compliment. At least I hope it means that I speak somewhat knowledgeably about the industry. I am actually a writer and editor by trade. But right out of college (25 years ago) I did take real estate courses and did pass the state exam. Just never activated the license. And I have been through two home sales in the last 3 years with both my father’s and grandmother’s homes. I am just a lay person with an interest, who does a lot of research and reading. And that goes for the rest of the mavens as well.

Susan - I don’t think it matters whether your a practicing agent or not and I am not sure why Wyatt has a problem with you “listing” what is open, etc. It is nice to read your blogs as I am searching for a home myself and I have found that coupled with a few other sites, Redfin is the only website that gives refreshing info on homes for sale/sold, homes w/ open houses, neighborhood info, when homes drop in price, etc. It is nice to hear your unbias opinion as opposed to the sellers agents.

Thank you Christine. We really do try to bring buyers and sellers what they need.
